This adventure is designed to push your boundaries as you tackle “The Highest Free Standing Mountain in the World”. It is a catalyst for service and self-exploration as you visit a rural Tanzanian school and immerse in the local community and culture. It is also your chance to make a difference by sponsoring or fundraising for the education of a disadvantaged student who you’ll meet during your adventure.
This adventure is available as a private tour all year. Best trekking conditions are between Dec – Feb and Jul – Sep. Unlike our small group tours, private tours do not include an experienced Australian guide who has lived in Tanzania and is with you 24/7 to manage your itinerary and to monitor altitude sickness and safety on Kilimanjaro. If you have never trekked in altitudes above 3,000m, we recommend you join a small group tour. For more details, contact an expert today.

We are a social enterprise. This means we place the same emphasis on doing the right thing and making a positive impact in the communities we travel to, as we do on making a profit. To prove it, we’ve graphed how your fee will be spent during this adventure.
We are proud to report that 78% of your fee will be spent in Tanzania, stimulating local business, creating local jobs and supporting local communities. Another 1%, the same percentage as our profit, is invested back into local initiatives and grass-roots charities.

111 million African children didn’t go to school in 2017. We’re not ok with this and we’re doing something about it!
With 47% of Africa’s population living below the poverty line, sponsoring a disadvantaged child through school is one of the best ways to fight poverty. Education empowers children to change their circumstances while educated women have fewer babies, a significant problem in Africa where birth rates are double the world average.

“The best 3 weeks of amazing adventure I have ever had.”
“You come with preconceptions and leave with perspective.”
“I would have gladly paid double once I’d experienced the tour AOL organised for us.”
“The most inspiring and authentic 2 weeks of my life.”
“The mountain is indescribable; best thing I’ve done in my life.”
✓ We introduce you to a local charity we trust and you sponsor through them.
✓ They will send you a student profile and you pay them directly.
✓ We will take you to visit the charity and meet the student you are sponsoringas part of your adventure.
✓ You need to be able to comfortably complete 1 hour of continuous,
strenuous exercise (i.e. a 1-hour gym class, boot camp or run, etc.).
✓ Kilimanjaro is extremely challenging.
✓ Most people can comfortably trek to base camp but summit night is hard for
everyone, even athletes.
✓ It is achievable for most people though and we have successfully taken 100%
of our trekkers to the summit in the last 3 years.
✓ We do not offer treks under 7 days due to the risks of altitude sickness.
✓ Kilimanjaro is a huge mountain and you need to give your body the time to
acclimatise to the decreasing oxygen levels as you ascend.
✓ For example, if you went from sea level to the top of Kilimanjaro
immediately, you would likely be unconscious in 10 minutes due to the lack
of oxygen. If you give your body the 7 – 10 days required to acclimatise, most
people will comfortably summit.
✓ The best way to train is to do what you will be doing on Kilimanjaro – trek.
✓ It is also important to build your leg strength by walking up and DOWN hills
and stairs.
✓ Yoga and stretching are fantastic way for you to reduce the risk of injury.
✓ We provide training advice and workout plans once you register.
✓ Tents and sleeping mats are provided as part of your fee and our trekking
team will set-up and collapse your tent each day.
✓ Our team of Wagumu (Swahili for “strong mountain men”) carry all of our
bags, tents, cooking equipment, chairs and food.
✓ You will only be required to carry a day pack with your lunch, snacks, water,
first aid kit and waterproof gear (approx. 6kg).
✓ You will have a personal chef on your adventure who will cook healthy, fresh
meals each day.
✓ Breakfast usually consists of toast, cereal, eggs, sausages, fruit and
coffee/tea.
✓ Lunch is usually a lunch box with a sandwich, fruit, biscuits, popper, etc.
✓ Dinner is often carb-heavy to ensure you have enough energy to trek each
day (i.e. potatoes, rice, pasta, etc.).
✓ You will trek between 5 – 12 km each day.
✓ This will take you between 4 – 8 hours.
✓ The objective is to go as slowly as possible so that you can keep your heart
rate low. This helps manage the risk of getting Acute Mountain Sickness
(altitude sickness).
✓ Summit night will be considerably harder. This night, you will start your trek
at 12am and you will walk all night until you summit at sunrise. After 30
minutes for photos and to enjoy your accomplishment, you will walk 3 – 4
hours back to base camp.
